Between March and early August, you have the unique opportunity to snorkel with the gentle giants of the sea – the whale sharks – in the nutrient-rich waters of the Ningaloo Reef. Itinerary

Exact itineraries vary depending on the tour type. 

Morning:
Meeting with the crew on board the boat, short briefing and pre-snorkeling lesson. Introduction to safety rules, behavior and correct approach to the whale sharks. Start of the tour on the Ningaloo Reef, search for whale sharks with the support of the light aircraft that detects the animals from the air. Snacks and refreshments (morning tea) during the first swimming and snorkeling sessions.

Lunch:
Lunch on board with light refreshments and drinks. Further snorkeling and swimming with the whale sharks at selected spots, accompanied by the professional crew.

Afternoon:
Afternoon tea and additional swimming or snorkeling sessions.
Tips and photo support from the crew to make the most of the encounter with the whale sharks. Celebratory finale with a glass of sparkling wine or light beer to commemorate the experience.

Conclusion:
Return to the harbor, handover of the free 8GB Whaleshark USB stick with photos and video of the day the next morning. Optional shipping of the USB stick if guests depart early.

Exmouth Dive & Whalesharks Ningaloo offers all deluxe tour customers the “Good Swim Guarantee”. If no whale shark is sighted or you were unable to swim, there is a one-off opportunity to do a repeat tour at half price within the next 3 years (conditions apply). It is recommended to plan some extra time in Exmouth.

Yes, a maximum of 3 observers can go on each boat. They can follow the experience from the deck, but cannot swim with the whale sharks. Observers can optionally snorkel in the reef in the morning and afternoon, but DBCA rules do not allow any interacting or swimming with the whale sharks.

The whale shark season runs from the beginning of March to the beginning of August.

The water temperatures are pleasant all year round. At the beginning of the season in March, you dive in 3mm suits at 28-24°C. In winter (July to November), 3mm or 5mm wetsuits are recommended for water temperatures from 23°C.

No, only snorkeling is allowed to ensure the well-being of the whale sharks. The animals should not be stressed by crowds of people and can dive into the depths at any time if they wish to retreat.
