Itinerary

Exact itineraries vary depending on the tour type.

Tomorrow:
You start early in Melbourne and board a comfortable, air-conditioned bus with Wi-Fi, cozy seats and plenty of legroom. As we cross the iconic West Gate Bridge, the city disappears behind you and the wild beauty of Victoria unfolds.

Our first stop is a hidden gem with a panoramic view of the You Yangs. Here you can enjoy fresh coffee, taste crispy cookies and experience the greeting of native birds. Look out for emus roaming around curiously – your camera will thank you.

Morning / midday:
Then the real highlight begins: the Great Ocean Road. This spectacular coastal road hugs cliffs while waves crash against the rocks – a sight that will leave you speechless. Stop to take photos at the famous Memorial Arch, enjoy the views of charming coastal towns like Lorne and Wye River and feel the fresh sea breeze at every bend.

We take a lunch break in Apollo Bay. Use the time to explore the cozy streets, breathe in the salty air and enjoy the relaxed Australian coastal life.

Afternoon:
After lunch, head into the lush, primeval rainforest of the Great Otway National Park. A peaceful walk under huge, ancient trees awaits you here – a real nature experience.

Late afternoon / evening:
The grand finale: the Twelve Apostles. These imposing limestone formations rise majestically out of the Southern Ocean and offer a breathtaking photo opportunity. Finally, we visit Loch Ard Gorge, where turquoise waters, windswept cliffs and legendary shipwrecks provide a dramatic backdrop to your day. Then it’s back to Melbourne.

Experience FAQs

The Great Ocean Road starts in Torquay, about 104 km south of Melbourne, and ends 244 km later in Allansford. However, we recommend driving all the way to Warrnambool to visit the largest town along the Great Ocean Road.

Yes, we offer special one-day tours so that you can make the most of your time in Melbourne. A day trip with a rental car is not recommended between April and October, as strong winds and rain storms can occur during this time. In addition, driving on less well-developed roads in the dark is exhausting. From Melbourne, it would take around seven hours to drive there and back. With an organized tour, you can sit back and enjoy the day to the fullest.

The Great Ocean Road is one of Victoria’s most scenic roads. For a day trip by bus from Melbourne to the iconic 12 Apostles, we recommend a full day.

The best time depends on the planned activities. Those who prefer warm weather should travel between September and April. During this time, there are usually sunny days with temperatures between 16 and 25 °C. Ideal for swimming on the famous surf beaches, for example.

The Great Ocean Walk is classified as “moderate” to “challenging”. There are short, steep climbs and uneven, bumpy paths. A certain basic level of fitness and some walking experience are recommended.

The route is just over 100 km long and leads along Australia’s highest coastal cliffs, past historic shipwrecks and vast, untouched beaches. Each section of the route offers new views and surprises.
