Itinerary

Exact itineraries vary depending on the tour type. 

Morning:
Arrive in the Uluru region. The unmistakable Uluru rises from the earth as a huge boulder and symbolizes the size, beauty and culture of Australia. You can explore the surrounding area on a short drive and gather your first impressions.

Lunch:
Lunch near Kata Tjuta (The Olgas). With its 36 domes of different sizes, Kata Tjuta forms an impressive contrast to Uluru.

Afternoon:
Afternoon hike through the domes of Kata Tjuta. Your tour guide will provide you with exciting information about the landscape, the geological formations and the cultural significance of the site.

Evening:
Light snack at sunset over Uluru, which bathes the rock in a variety of earth tones. Followed by a delicious dinner at camp with the group. If the weather is clear, we enjoy the night under the stars and round off the first day.

Morning:
An early start for a spectacular sunrise over Uluru. The first rays of sunlight bathe the rock in vibrant colors and open up a magical view of the surroundings.

Morning:
Visit an important cultural site at Uluru. The tour guide will show you Anangu rock art and tell you the stories of the origins of the Mala people. Afterwards, you will have time for the self-guided base walk around Uluru to experience valleys, rock formations and sacred sites up close.

Lunch:
Lunch and optional visit to the cultural center, where you can purchase artwork from local indigenous people.

Afternoon:
Drive to the exclusive campsite in Watarrka National Park (Kings Canyon). On the way you can enjoy the fascinating landscape of the Red Center.

Evening:
Dinner at the camp and stargazing. Relax in the unique outback atmosphere after an eventful day.

Morning:
Guided hike through Kings Canyon. The tour guide will show you the most famous places: the Lost City, the Garden of Eden, the amphitheater and the north and south walls. You will gain an insight into the geology, flora and fauna of the region.

Lunch:
Lunch in Watarrka National Park.

Afternoon:
In the late afternoon, drive back to Yulara (approx. 3 hours). During the drive you can enjoy the views of the outback and reflect on the experiences of the last few days.

Evening:
Optional: camel ride at sunset, visit to the Field of Lights, Sounds of Silence, Wintjiri Wiru drone demonstration or a free Uluru sunset from a different perspective. Dinner and overnight at the camp under the stars.

Hearty breakfast at the camp. Then transfer to the Desert Gardens Hotel or directly to Uluru Airport (Ayers Rock Airport, AYQ), depending on departure time. Optionally, you can leave your luggage at the hotel and do some shopping at Yulara Resort. Free shuttle transfers to the airport are available on a regular basis.

Where we’ll meet

Flights arriving before 13:00: Meet your guide at the Desert Gardens Hotel at 13:45 (Outback Lodge at 13:50). Flights arriving between 13:00 and 13:40: Meet your guide outside Ayers Rock Airport at 14:00. You should be ready to go straight into the adventure - with hiking boots, easily accessible hat, sunscreen and water bottle. A free shuttle service is available between Ayers Rock Airport and Desert Gardens Hotel - no booking required. Not recommended: Flight VA1693 from Brisbane (BNE). We recommend starting the tour the following day. If this is the only option, lunch is not included and guests will miss Kata Tjuta. Pick up at Desert Gardens Hotel is 20 minutes after sunset.

  • Cancellations within 7 days of the start date will incur a 100% charge.
  • Cancellations between 7 days and 28 days before the start date will incur a 50% fee.
  • Cancellations between 28 days and 365 days prior to the start date will incur a fee of $250.00.

We recommend packing light. Maximum 15 kg, ideal: a small soft bag plus daypack. Hard-shell suitcases are unsuitable. Excess luggage can usually be stored in the hotel.

Yes, own refillable bottle recommended. At least 3 liters of water are mandatory for the Kings Canyon Rim Walk.

A swag is a robust, cocoon-like sleeping bag with a 5 cm mattress in which you use your own sleeping blanket. Warmer and more comfortable than a tent.

Light clothing, layers for changing temperatures, long shirts/trousers for sun protection, comfortable closed shoes. In winter (June-August) it can get as cold as 0 °C at night. Don’t forget your sun hat, sun cream and sunglasses.

Average to good fitness. Daily hikes: 5-9 km on uneven terrain, often in high temperatures. Not suitable for children.

In winter down to 0 °C, in summer usually around 20 °C.

Yes, please specify when booking. Substitutes will be provided, you can bring your own basic food.
