Itinerary

Exact itineraries vary depending on the tour type. 

Arrival & Uluru/Kata Tjuta

Afternoon:
Arrival and first view of Uluru. Lunch at Kata Tjuta (The Olgas). Afternoon hike between the 36 domes to get to know the landscape.

Evening:
Light snacks during the Uluru sunset. Dinner at camp with the group. Weather permitting: sit under the stars and enjoy the evening.

Uluru & cultural experiences

Morning:
Early start for the Uluru sunrise. Cultural walk with the tour guide, Anangu rock art and stories about the formation of Uluru. Self-guided base walk around Uluru.

Lunch:
Lunch and visit to the cultural center, opportunity to buy works of art by local artists.

Afternoon/evening:
Drive to the exclusive campsite at Watarrka National Park (Kings Canyon). Dinner and stargazing at the camp.

Kings Canyon & return journey

Morning:
Guided hike in Kings Canyon to the highlights: Lost City, Garden of Eden, Amphitheatre, North Wall and South Wall.

Lunch:
Lunch at camp.

Afternoon:
Drive back to Alice Springs and say goodbye.

Where we’ll meet

Flights arriving before 13:00: Meet your guide at Desert Gardens Hotel at 13:45 (Outback Lodge at 13:50). Flights arriving between 13:00 and 13:40: Meet your guide outside Ayers Rock Airport at 14:00. Please be ready to go straight into the adventure: sturdy shoes, sun hat, sunscreen and water bottle at hand. A free shuttle runs regularly between Ayers Rock Airport and Desert Gardens Hotel - no advance booking required. Not recommended: Flight VA1693 from Brisbane (BNE). We recommend starting the tour the following day. If this is the only option, lunch is not included and a visit to Kata Tjuta is not included. Pick up at Desert Gardens Hotel is 20 minutes after sunset.

  • Cancellations within 7 days of the start date will incur a 100% charge.
  • Cancellations between 7 days and 28 days before the start date will incur a 50% fee.
  • Cancellations between 28 days and 365 days prior to the start date will incur a fee of $250.00.

We recommend packing light. Maximum 15 kg, ideal: a small soft bag plus daypack. Hard-shell suitcases are unsuitable. Excess luggage can usually be stored in the hotel.

Yes, own refillable bottle recommended. At least 3 liters of water are mandatory for the Kings Canyon Rim Walk.

A swag is a robust, cocoon-like sleeping bag with a 5 cm mattress in which you use your own sleeping blanket. Warmer and more comfortable than a tent.

Light clothing, layers for changing temperatures, long shirts/trousers for sun protection, comfortable closed shoes. In winter (June-August) it can get as cold as 0 °C at night. Don’t forget your sun hat, sun cream and sunglasses.

Average to good fitness. Daily hikes: 5-9 km on uneven terrain, often in high temperatures. Not suitable for children.

In winter down to 0 °C, in summer usually around 20 °C.

Yes, please specify when booking. Substitutes will be provided, you can bring your own basic food.
