Just a short drive west of Alice Springs, the majestic mountain ranges stretch for 161 kilometers. Crystal clear waterholes invite you to take a refreshing dip, while numerous hiking trails offer spectacular views of the rugged beauty of the Red Centre.

On our full-day tour you will experience the full diversity of this landscape: the idyllic Ellery Creek Big Hole, the impressive Ormiston Gorge and the vibrant colors of the historic ochre pits. An unforgettable nature experience in the heart of Australia!

Itinerary

Exact itineraries vary depending on the tour type. 

Morning:
Your adventure begins at the sacred site of Simpsons Gap (Rungutjirpa) with its permanent waterhole and the chance of spotting a shy rock wallaby. Continue to the impressive Standley Chasm (Angkerle Atwatye), where the rock faces, up to 80 meters high, glow in bright shades of red.

Noon:
Afterwards, the picturesque Ellery Creek Big Hole (Udepata) invites you to take a refreshing dip, accompanied by a picnic lunch in the middle of the outback scenery.

Afternoon:
We then visit the colorful and culturally significant Ochre Pits before ending the day in the impressive Ormiston Gorge (Kwartatuma) with its dramatic rock faces and magnificent views. We return to Alice Springs in the late afternoon.

The tour is suitable for children aged 6 and over. Infants and children under the age of 6 cannot participate for safety reasons. Children must be supervised at all times and all guests are required to keep to the marked paths and visitor areas.

Please only bring a small daypack or handbag, as the storage space in the vehicle is limited. Large suitcases or backpacks must be stored in the hotel or in lockers at the bus station before departure.

A moderate level of fitness is required as some trails in the West MacDonnell Ranges can be rocky or steep.

Yes, the tour will take place even in rain or bad weather, unless you are contacted by the organizer. The tour will only be canceled in extreme weather conditions that make it impossible to carry out the tour safely.
