Itinerary

Exact itineraries vary depending on the tour type.

Your day begins at 8:10 am with boarding at the Crystalbrook Superyacht Marina in Port Douglas. After a short welcome and safety briefing, the 90-minute trip to the edge of the continental shelf begins. On the way, we pass the Low Isles and, with a bit of luck, you might spot dolphins or – in the winter months – minke or humpback whales. During the trip, the crew will introduce you to the day’s itinerary, fit your high-quality snorkeling equipment and give you valuable tips on what to look out for in the water.

At the first reef stop, you will receive a detailed safety briefing. If you are snorkeling for the first time, our guides will help you to feel comfortable in the water. Afterwards, you can explore the reef at your own pace while the crew is in the water to support you and point out special sea creatures.

After the first snorkeling session, a delicious morning drink awaits you. We then head to a second exclusive reef site, which is selected depending on the weather and water conditions. Here you have the opportunity to take part in a guided snorkeling tour with our marine biologists, who will show you exciting details about the reef and its inhabitants.

For lunch, you’ll enjoy a fresh, deli-style lunch with gourmet sandwiches or bowls (gluten- or lactose-free options also available). Meanwhile, our marine biologists give an interactive Reef Talk, where you can ask questions or simply sit back and relax to learn more about the delicate ecosystem of the Great Barrier Reef.

In the afternoon, we will visit a third reef site where you can put your knowledge into practice and snorkel extensively once again. Take the opportunity to take some impressive underwater photos – we’ll make them available to you free of charge via a Dropbox link, along with a selection of our best Wavelength wildlife images.

Finally, we take an afternoon break while we cruise back to Port Douglas at a leisurely pace. We are back in port at around 4 p.m. – with many new impressions and unforgettable memories of a day on the Great Barrier Reef.

Experience FAQs

We provide you with wetsuits, snorkeling equipment, food, water and everything you need for the reef. However, we recommend that you bring a small bag with personal items: Swimwear, towel, hat, sunglasses, change of clothes, jacket or sweater (in winter), seasickness remedy, extra food if necessary for special dietary needs, camera.

Only in very rare cases. If conditions on the Great Barrier Reef are deemed unsafe due to a combination of very strong winds or storms and high tides at midday, Wavelength will cancel the tour.

We love taking children out on the reef and even run regular charter tours for school groups. However, we recommend a minimum age of 6 years as it is a long day at sea.

Yes, we have a large selection of free corrective masks from -2 to -8 on board. If you wear contact lenses, you can also wear them under a normal mask. Please inform our crew when boarding so that they can give you a suitable mask.
