About this experience
Experience two spectacular reef stops on the Outer Great Barrier Reef on Cairns’ only all-inclusive tour. Spend a full day on the reef with a free dive*(introductory or certified), unlimited snorkeling, breakfast, lunch, stinger wetsuits, glass-bottom boat tour (weather permitting) and hotel transfer in Cairns.
The crew selects the best spots every day – including Hastings Reef, Norman Reef, Saxon Reef and Breaking Patches – to show you the most beautiful corals and marine life. Learn exciting facts from a marine biologist on board, take part in a guided snorkeling tour or relax on deck and enjoy the view of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Itinerary
Day
07:30 – Boarding
Check-in at the Marlin Jetty in Cairns. Guests using the Reef Experience shuttle bus will be taken directly to the harbor.
08:00 a.m. – Departure
Departure towards the Outer Great Barrier Reef – time to make yourself comfortable on board.
08:30 – Breakfast & Briefing
Enjoy BBQ Bacon & Egg Rolls for breakfast. Afterwards you will receive a briefing for diving & snorkeling as well as an exciting presentation by a marine biologist about the Great Barrier Reef.
09:30 – First reef spot
Arrival at the first spectacular reef. Time for snorkeling and/or diving among colorful tropical fish, giant clams and other fascinating sea creatures.
12:30 p.m. – Lunch
Fortify yourself at the buffet lunch with a large selection of hot and cold dishes, salads and tropical fruit.
13:00 – Second reef spot
Explore another reef location with coral forests, large fans and black coral trees in shallow lagoons.
15:00 – Departure from the reef
After an unforgettable day on the reef, we head back towards Cairns.
3:30 pm – Afternoon Refreshments
Enjoy a complimentary glass of wine, tropical fruit, cheese and crackers on the return trip.
16:30 – Arrival in Cairns
Return to Marlin Marina with many new impressions and memories.
Where we’ll meet
Cancellation Policy
- Cancellations within 14 days before the start date will be charged a fee of 100%.
- Between 14 days and 28 days a fee of 50% will be charged.
- A fee of 20% applies between 28 days and 365 days.
Experience FAQs
Can anyone try scuba diving?
Yes, most guests can do a trial dive during the Reef Experience. Please note: Australia has stricter age, health and medical requirements for intro and certified dives than many other countries. Therefore, please check the important information on our website in advance to make sure that you are allowed to dive according to Australian regulations. Age restrictions: The minimum age for an introductory dive is 12 years. There is no set maximum age, however diving should only be undertaken by physically fit and active individuals as it is a physically demanding activity.
Can I only decide on board whether I want to dive?
Yes, you can also book your dive spontaneously on board – just speak to the crew and they will help you.
When do we leave and when will we be back?
Boarding at 7:30 am, departure at 8:00 am from Marlin Wharf, A-Finger. Arrival approx. 16:30 hrs.
How do I get to the Reef Experience?
You can make your own way to Marlin Wharf (A-Finger) or use the shuttle bus service – return transfers within Cairns City are included.
How long does it take to get to the reef?
Approx. 90 minutes to the first reef spot.
What should I bring with me?
Hat, sunscreen (SPF 30+), sun protection clothing (e.g. T-shirt or rash vest), swimwear, beach towel, cash for drinks (soft drinks, beer, wine), credit card for on-board store & optional extras.
How long will we be at the reef?
Up to 5.5 hours on the Outer Great Barrier Reef.
Where can I park?
Pier Shopping Complex: approx. $0.80/hour (outdoor), approx. $13/day (covered) Trinity Wharf: approx. $6.50/day (short walk) Abbott & Florence Street: free parking (all day, limited spaces)
Can you cater for vegetarians or other dietary requirements?
Yes – please let us know before the day of travel.
Can divers and snorkelers travel together?
Yes, snorkelers and divers are welcome on the same tour.
Do I need diving experience?
No – no prior knowledge is required for a trial dive. Our professional diving instructors specialize in guiding beginners safely under water. Minimum age: 12 years.
