Itinerary

Exact itineraries vary depending on the tour type.

Hobart → Strahan
Departing from Hobart, your adventure through Lutruwita/Tasmania begins at Mount Field National Park, part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. Walk between imposing eucalyptus trees and marvel at the impressive Russell Falls.

As you continue your journey through the Western Wilds, breathtaking landscapes such as Lake St Clair, Australia’s deepest freshwater lake, and the Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park await you. On the way, you will learn more about Tasmania’s rich mining history in Queenstown before reaching the picturesque harbor town of Strahan, where we will stay for the next two nights.

Overnight stay: Strahan

Today you can tailor your West Coast adventure to suit your wishes. If you like to be active, you can take part in a guided hike through the lush temperate rainforest and across the vast, windswept Henty Sand Dunes.

If you prefer a more leisurely pace, the optional Gordon River Cruise (at an additional cost) is a great option. The cruise takes you through Macquarie Harbour, to historic Sarah Island and into the UNESCO World Heritage area, where you can walk among ancient Huon pines.

In the afternoon, we visit Ocean Beach, Tasmania’s longest sandy beach, and enjoy the fresh, clear air.

Overnight stay: Strahan

Cradle Mountain → Launceston
Cradle Mountain National Park is one of Tasmania’s most famous destinations and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. We explore the stunning alpine landscapes and glacier-carved wilderness, always on the lookout for wombats, echidnas and other native wildlife.

Choose from a variety of world-class hikes: the challenging climb to Marion’s Lookout, the scenic 6 km Dove Lake Circuit or a leisurely stroll to the historic Boatshed.

After your stay in the park, head north to Launceston, with a stop in Sheffield, known for its impressive murals.

Overnight stay: Launceston

Launceston → Bicheno
In Launceston, we explore the charming Cataract Gorge, a natural paradise on the South Esk River, just a few minutes from the city. This picturesque reserve is an ideal place to spot wallabies.

On the way to the east coast, we take a lunch break in the fishing town of St Helens before continuing to Larapuna/Bay of Fires. Here you will gain an insight into the deep spiritual connection the Palawa have with this land. Walk along the pristine white sandy beaches where the turquoise waters contrast beautifully with the bright orange rocks.

We continue south along the coast, where we spend the night in the coastal town of Bicheno – home to the Little Penguin.

Overnight stay: Bicheno

Freycinet National Park → Hobart
Freycinet National Park on the east coast of Tasmania is a peninsula known for its extraordinary beaches, coastal forests and stunning pink granite mountains. This nature lover’s paradise offers numerous hiking options, from the iconic Wineglass Bay Lookout to a rewarding hike down to the beach.

For the more adventurous, the climb to the summit of Mt Amos offers breathtaking panoramic views, while a leisurely coastal walk to Honeymoon Bay offers a more relaxed experience. We also visit the Cape Tourville Lighthouse, which offers sweeping views of the Tasman Sea and the wild coastal landscape.

The day ends with a scenic drive back to Nipaluna/Hobart along the idyllic Great Eastern Drive.

Overnight stay: Hobart

Discover Tasmania’s premier conservation and wildlife center, Bonorong, where you can experience quolls, wombats, kangaroos and the Tasmanian devil.

We then explore the colonial village of Richmond before driving through the picturesque Coal River Valley wine region towards Wellington Park in Hobart. Kunanyi/Mount Wellington is a spectacular natural paradise with lush fern forests, tall eucalyptus trees, impressive rock formations and scenic walking trails leading to breathtaking lookouts. Our guide will give you exciting insights into this unique landscape and show you some of our favorite spots on “The Mountain”.

In the evening, you can relax in one of Hobart’s historic pubs or restaurants and enjoy the charm of the city.

Overnight stay: Hobart

Explore the stunning coastal landscapes and rich convict history of Turrakana/Tasman Peninsula. The Port Arthur Historic Site, Australia’s best preserved convict colony, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and gives you an insight into Tasmania’s harsh past as a convict camp.

We then set off from Remarkable Cave on one of Tasmania’s most beautiful short walks, which leads to the impressive sand dunes of Crescent Bay. The 2-3 hour return walk offers breathtaking coastal views.

We also visit the Tasman Arch in Tasman National Park, where the imposing sea cliffs – the highest in Australia – reveal the raw power of the Southern Ocean.

In the afternoon we drive back to Hobart, bringing our adventure through Tasmania to an end.
