Itinerary

Exact itineraries vary depending on the tour type.

Before the launch
The hot air balloon needs to be prepared before you take off. Depending on the timing, you will either experience the final moments of inflation or the entire fascinating set-up process from laying out the balloon to raising it upright. Either way, it’s an exciting process that you don’t see every day!

Take off & soar
After you have climbed into the basket and the pilot has given you a short safety briefing, your adventure begins: you float silently into the morning sky while the first rays of sunlight bathe the rugged MacDonnell Ranges in golden light. Enjoy the sweeping views over the endless landscape of the Central Australian outback and keep an eye out for native animals – you might even spot the famous red kangaroo.

After landing
Back on the ground, you can help the crew pack up the balloon if you like – or simply capture the moment with photos. Afterwards, a cozy finale awaits: enjoy the silence of the desert with light refreshments, accompanied by sparkling wine and tropical fruit juice. Before returning to Alice Springs, you will have the opportunity to purchase a balloon flight souvenir and receive a personal certificate as a memento of this unforgettable experience.

Experience FAQs

No, Uluru is about 450km from Alice Springs.

The drive takes place about 15 km south of Alice Springs, along the MacDonnell Ranges and via the historic Owen Springs Cattle Station. Enjoy the endless desert landscapes, the mountains in the distance and, if you’re lucky, kangaroos, birds, camels and other wildlife. Please note: We do not fly directly over the MacDonnell Ranges.

Yes, balloon flights in Australia start at dawn, as this offers the best weather conditions. Depending on the schedule, you can experience the sunrise directly from the balloon or from the ground – both are impressive.

We usually fly within the first 300 meters above the ground. The exact altitude depends on the weather conditions in the morning.

Helping to pack up after landing is voluntary. It’s fun and we welcome support, but if you are physically challenged, you can also just watch and take photos. Please note that participation is at your own risk.

No, it’s not colder than on the ground. The burners can even make it a little warmer and as the balloon drifts with the wind, there is hardly any wind chill.

Yes, after landing there is a glass of Australian sparkling wine or fruit juice as well as small snacks in the midst of the tranquillity of the desert. Special dietary requirements are possible on request.

Yes, ballooning feels very different to the view from a tall building. It’s calm, gentle and safe – you don’t have to look down, but can enjoy the view into the distance. The baskets are stable and about 1.20 m high. If you decide not to get in at the start, you can stay with the crew and follow the balloon from the ground until it lands again.
