Experience FAQs
Do you offer optical masks for snorkelers and divers?
Standard masks enlarge underwater objects by approx. 25 %. In addition, a limited selection of correction masks in various thicknesses is available free of charge. Please ask for availability when booking or at check-in.
Are children allowed on board?
Yes, children are welcome when accompanied by an adult. However, we recommend that children are experienced in the water as there are no childcare facilities on board. The minimum age for a dive is 12 years.
Do you have foreign-language diving and snorkeling guides?
Our crew speaks several languages. However, as the crew changes, we cannot guarantee a specific language for a specific day. Please contact our office in advance if you require a specific language.
How long will we be at the reef?
You have over 5 hours of reef time in total, split between three different locations.
Will we see whales?
Silversonic has one of the few permits from the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority that allows guests to swim with minke whales if we encounter them. During the season (usually June-July) they are frequently spotted on the Agincourt Ribbon Reefs. This activity is carried out strictly in accordance with the prescribed rules of conduct.
How deep do we dive?
The dives are usually 12 to 18 meters deep. The Great Barrier Reef is not a typical deep-sea destination – the best experiences await in the shallower areas, where the sunlight illuminates the corals perfectly.
How many dives can I do?
Certified divers can make up to three dives per day. Introductory divers (intro dives) have the opportunity to do up to two dives.
What are the rules for flying after diving?
After a single dive: wait at least 12 hours before flying (or going above 300 m). After several dives: wait at least 24 hours. Also avoid activities such as skydiving, hot air ballooning or a trip to Kuranda (train/cable car) during this time.
