Itinerary

Exact itineraries vary depending on the tour type.

Arrival & start of adventure
Your experience begins early with a safety briefing at 7:00 am at the Freedom Hostel in Rainbow Beach. Here you will get to know your fellow travelers with whom you will share this unforgettable adventure.

From Rainbow Beach, head to the largest sand island in the world – K’gari (Fraser Island). Your 4WD adventure starts along 75 Mile Beach. While music plays, you enjoy the spectacular view and soon stop at the famous shipwreck of the SS Maheno – a landmark of the island and perfect photo spot.

After lunch, a highlight awaits you: Eli Creek, a natural freshwater canal. Float comfortably on a floating ring and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. In the evening, you’ll arrive at the safe Dingo campsite, where you can round off the day with a delicious dinner, drinks and a convivial campfire atmosphere.

After breakfast, it’s back onto the legendary 75 Mile Beach towards Eurong. Here you stop at Central Station and take a guided walk along Wanggoolba Creek while learning more about the culture and history of the Aboriginal people.

Another highlight awaits at Lake McKenzie, probably the most picturesque place on K’gari (Fraser Island). Swim in the bright blue water, relax on the white sand and enjoy the tranquillity of this special place.

After lunch, the return journey begins via 75 Mile Beach and the ferry back to Rainbow Beach. You will arrive back at the hostel between 15:00 and 16:00 – with lots of unforgettable memories in your luggage.

Experience FAQs

In Rainbow Beach there are plenty of free parking spaces on the main street or in the side streets near our departure point. There is also a paid parking lot on Spectrum Street, opposite the Freedom Rainbow Beach Hostel.

On a day-long tour, you drive the 4WD yourself! An experienced guide drives the lead vehicle, with up to four other vehicles following under his guidance. He will explain to you over the radio how to drive safely on K’gari (Fraser Island). Drivers must be at least 21 years old and have held a manual driver’s license for 12 months.

All K’gari (Fraser Island) adventures start and end at Freedom Hostel Rainbow Beach (20 Spectrum Street, Rainbow Beach).

The departure time depends on the tides. It is important that you attend the safety briefing at 7:00 am on the day of departure. You will receive all the latest information there.

The return is also dependent on the tides and takes place between 14:00 and 17:00. We do not recommend the 5pm Greyhound bus to Airlie Beach – take the 7pm bus instead, then you have enough time to relax.

Yes, but with restrictions: Canned beer, cider, canned wine and mixed drinks are permitted. Glass bottles, spirits and boxed wine are not permitted.

Yes, the briefing is mandatory and non-negotiable. It provides you with important information about safety, procedures and emergencies.

Pack light: swimsuit, towel, hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, toiletries, comfortable clothes and shoes. Think of a long-sleeved jacket for cool evenings. Bring a refillable water bottle and preferably a waterproof bag for your cell phone or camera. You will need $2 coins for showers. Large bags are not allowed, but there is free luggage storage.

As a Dingo’s guest, you can store your luggage free of charge at Freedom Rainbow Beach. For valuables, we recommend using your own lock for the lockers in the hostel.

Yes, you must be at least 21 years old, have held a manual driver’s license for at least one year and bring the original document with you. International guests also need an international driver’s license. If you do not meet the criteria, you can still ride along, but not drive yourself.

On the 3-day tour we drive with manual vehicles, on the 2-day tour with automatic vehicles.

We’re going to the national park camp, sleeping in dome tents for two. Simple, but in the middle of nature!

Yes, the camps run on solar power and generators. There are limited charging points for cell phones and each car has a charging cable. It is best to fully charge your devices before the tour and bring a power bank.

No, as long as you follow the safety instructions of our guides. Respect nature and wildlife – especially dingoes – and keep your distance, then your trip will be safe and unforgettable.
