Located off the coast of Townsville, on the Subtropical Coast in the state of Queensland, Magnetic Island is not only a photogenic sight from afar, but also a popular destination for hikers, snorkelers, divers, kayakers and animal lovers. Magnetic Island is 52 km² – offering you 20 beaches and only eight kilometres from the mainland. Like Townsville, the island has a dry climate with 320 days of sunshine a year and is overgrown with eucalyptus forest and hoop pines. You can also see numerous koalas, wallabies and possums here. You can also often see black and yellow cockatoos, sea eagles and parrots.
